How important is a website if you are doing commercial lending with ads in the business journals?
(Haplo, don't forget to ask your friend about the cost in your market tomoorow!) |

I hear coffee is a good thing, and I have a CAT who wakes me up at the crack of 4:30 AM I can loan you. What else do you need? :P
How about a grand child who runs in and hops on you? Or a Teenager who rolls in at 4 am, just because your 200 miles closer to a free bed than his? Oh, that's a family....Get used to it. |

Hey,
I get up every day just around 6 o'clock, regardless of when I go to bed. Weekends too. That doesn't mean my memory works so well before about 8 :P And I don't need that coffee crap! |

I can't really speak to commercial, but I sold web sites for the two largest web designers catering to the residential mortgage industry, Myers Internet & Lion Inc. Pretty much, a great web site did little to help a lousy broker while even a basic site could benefit a good broker. Web sites are kind of like online business cards, usually only seen by people you give it to. People who already have an impression of you.
If I were still originating, I'd have a blog type site similar to the one I have now, instead of the typical calculators/online app/about us site like everyone else. If I were in commercial, I'd post about the latest commercial happenings in my area. I'd make it a place were my potential clients would come for news, even if they don't intend to use me for financing.
Finally Chow, I'd look for a site that you can edit yourself. With all the advertising you do, a URL on every add lets you give your customers the most current information possible, even if it's just a note that you are out of town.
Edit- Here's a perfect example of the type of blog I would have if I were still an LO. It's written by Alex Stenback, a broker in Minneapolis. How many real estate agents and potential homebuyers do you think would look at this site and realize this a true resource, not just a sales pitch.

Blogs take too much time. I need to get away from the keyboard more. But I did like the heading for today!
"How NOT to Handle an Eviction Notice"
I have someone who needs to read that-in mind. I'm going to update my friends, and add mine to her's. We did this one.
Tell me what you think. It needs work. We're going to start this weekend on it.

commercial people are really black and white "thinkers"
They are really more anal retentive than a ..... Perfectly square and level 3 sided structures- that we find in a valley some where east of our pond...and along a river in a dessert?
Now, what was my question.......
I was asking the commerical people what I have so far-how it looked. |

| I'd say an internet presence with good information of value to your prospects is a valuable addition to the more conventional ad methods you use. Just be sure to include your URL on every piece of advertising you produce. Also ... include an opt-in form on your index page offering a free mortgage consuiltation. They way you can capture the contact information of your prospects for follow up advertising. |

I like the layout. Of course your homepage needs more content though but I think you know that.
My question to you would be what do you want this site to do? Are you just going to put it on business cards and marketing materials or are you going to build SEO in hopes of generating more customers?
Who is this realdealphil character? lol Hi Phil. |

The site is just set up now as a link for the online yellow page listings and a few pay per month search engines for my appraiser has set up. We were going to venture onto a few more pages and links. Most of my business is just from referrals and walking around with marketing material, so I don't need too much other than an online business card, and a few bells and whistles as suggested.
