This is on the minds of so many while jobs are being cut and the housing market continues to crumble. Selling is almost impossible so we next look to our other expenses monthly.
We were in this same situation where we had a huge negative of income when we acquired our home. What to do?
The first thing we did was join a credit union. As soon as we were members we refinanced our vehicle and it saved us $150 a month. There have been numerous times they allowed us to skip payments as well.
Cut coupons! Treat them as money! They can really save you money along with meal planning and checking out the sales paper and planning meals accordingly.
Downgrade cable. Look into programs such a Netflix that offer live streaming for as little as $4.99 a month!
Cut house phone or look into Vonage, Magic Jack for cheap alternatives.
These few things can really help while we struggle to get out of this recession! |

Credit Unions get a lot of praise from a lot of people.
I personally have not become part of one yet, but I hope to in the future. There's no shortage of great stories like yours where people have had loans refinanced, been approved for credit when no one else would do so etc
Thank goodness for the small banks in America that actually care about customers. |

I second that! Especially the last part!
I never knew what a CU was and have had nothing but good business with them! Some do more than others. We are part of two CU's and the one has cut our payment down & offered programs in tough times and the other doesn't...So, you just have to look/shop around :) |

I first started hearing about CUs when I was working on credit repair. A lot of people who couldn't get credit cards anywhere else with big banks (not even secured cards) were told to go check with CUs. Lo and behold a lot of them got regular unsecured cards through CUs!
I thought that was really great, but I didn't have access to any CUs in my area that I qualified for so I quit looking.
I use BOA and get gouged on a number of things like monthly fees and what not, but other than that they've been pretty good to me and they did give me a secured card when my scores were around 500. After under a year they unsecured it and almost tripled my credit line so I can't complain... much lol |
