I'm 2 weeks from closing date and my underwriter is requesting 12 month payment history for rent and utility. 2009 was a tough year; I was helping my son pay his bills due to a tax lien on his pay; so I was often late on my payments but always paid. My landlord is very lax and didn't care as long as he got paid and my power was never turned off. Is this going to lose me the loan?

Just have your landlord provide a letter stating that your payments were on-time for the past 12 months

If your landlord has been supportive thus far, I doubt he'd have a problem doing like Eric said and giving you a good letter of recommendation. He wouldn't be in trouble if you defaulted so there's no reason for him not to help you out.
