I have never owned a home before and want to buy one before Dec. 1, 2009 so I can get the Home Buyers Stimulus Package. How long does the process usually take in looking for and buying a new home? Do I still have enough time to do it? What's the first step I should take?

You've been processing for EIGHT years and you don't have a clue as to timing? That's scary!

9/14 "I have been processing for over eight years."

"but if an estate agent say the 'bottom' has been reached it must be true an estate agent would never lie would they?..........yeah right?

When looking at houses bring a notebook and maybe even a digital camera so you can keep the houses straight in your mind. Write down first impressions, likes and dislikes about the house.

1. Get all your financial information together (W2, Bank Statements, etc)
2. Contact a mortgage consultant (loan officer) and see if you can get pre-approved for a home loan, if so, for how much.
3. If you can get approved, have the loan officer provide you with a pre-approval letter.
4. Look for a home within your price range. If you find a property you like....make an offer

That's probably the best way to begin the process!!! Good luck!
