Since joining this site I have tried to give quality and honest advice to every poster I could.

About 6 weeks ago or so I asked to have my moderator priv's here revoked and recent events require that I explain what's been going on.

I watched a moderator lock a thread because he got pissed off (his words) at a poster.
http://www.mortgageforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=2178&highlight=
His own words were:
Quote: You've accomplished two things since coming here.
1) Breaking the rules on advertisements
2) Piss off a moderator

I decided at that point I no longer wanted to be associated as a moderator. I figured the other moderator was too deeply embedded for any complaint of mine to be effective.

This moderator quotes violations of the "rules and guidelines of this forum" but do you wanna know something? There aren't any.

There are no Terms Of Service for us to abide by. The only thing up there is the FAQs.

Care to know what the FAQ section says about weblinks? It doesn't say anything about them at all.

But there is someone that can read the invisible ink here:
http://www.mortgageforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=1322&start=15
Quote: this is a rule that was set up by the administrater of the board
I'd love to know where that rule is written.

Comments like this one:
Quote: The point of the rule is to keep people contributing long enough that they actually come back. make no sense at all either.

The weblink in a new member's signature is a small issue. The rationale for not allowing it is a much larger one.

The new member is being treated unfairly. They have to prove themselves in some manner known only to that moderator who has no plan in place to notify the new member as to when they qualify to place one there. Wouldn't a more fair method be to punish those that abuse the weblink as I have suggested in the past?

Now it seems that new rules are written everyday but the rest of us aren't privy to them. Only this one moderator. He takes a vacation and doesn't like what he sees another new member write. So here's another description of what this site is supposed to be:
http://www.mortgageforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=2424
Quote: What happened while I was gone? We suddenly changed from a consumer driven website to a grapevine "I can't close a loan so I have to ask everyone who to get a loan through" and "I'm going to sit around and post "I can do that" on every post I ever see" website.

Where does it say that an A/E or L/O can't offer to do the loan? I'd love to know where that rule is written too please.

Now, I was sent a rather demanding private message yesterday by this moderator telling me to "cut it out". Accusing me of behaving like a 14 year old, hypocritical slandering and trying to cause a mutiny.
Another rule was in that PM Quote: THIS board is here so that consumers can ask questions about loans, the situations that they're in that they need advice on, for new brokers or old brokers to ask questions about their marketing or development. Once more I'd love to know where that rule is written.

If my challenging this moderator's authority is indicative of a 14 year old's behavior then so be it.

If asking that new members be treated as fairly as other contributing members is causing a mutiny then I have to plead guilty to that too.

If quoting that moderator's own words and pasting links to the corroborating threads results in a new definition of "hypocritical slandering" then someone needs to inform Webster's.

BTW Travis, before you accuse someone of following you around, have the administrators disable the "Notify me when a reply is posted" box or is that another rule I need to be aware of?

My suggestions to David, (our administrator here) would be
1) to establish and publish a real set of rules and guidelines that we all have access to.
2) to have the moderators not post using the same name they use as contributing members.

I obviously care about what happens in here or I wouldn't be posting. Review my previous posts and with the possible exception of where I have tried to correct the attitude of a moderator here, I think you'll find that I have offered very level headed advice. Sometimes with a bit of sarcasm or sardonic humor, but normally pretty even handed.

I need to apologize for something. Now, having read the "Advertising Policy" I realize that I have been in error by posting links Quote: to other pages in the other sections of the Mortgage Forums, beside the Advertising forum, are strictly prohibited. I assure that I will not do it again. I was unaware that it was there and I sincerely apologize.

I just found the area addressing weblinks in signatures for this site.

It is addressed in the "Advertising Policy" section located in the upper right hand corner of the top blue banner of this site.

Here is a direct quote from it:

Quote: There is one additional way you can advertise your product or service. You are welcome to place a link in your signature. To do this, click on "profile" at the top of the page. Please limit the link to 25 characters. Please do not use graphic links. One great thing about this is the more you post, the more exposure you get.

David, (The site administrator) will be working on set of ground rules for the site. Mac has made some sound points that have been discussion topics before. The site grew up over the course of time, and it needs some revitilization in many areas, if it is to continue to serve the community that David created it for. If anyone has some ideas to bring to the table, please feel free to post them here, or contact David.

Mac, Thanks for bringing your concerns up and expressing them out in the open for discussion with the community and the moderators.

Good, it seems like we all at least agree that we should work together to make some improvements.

i havent been keeping up.... and really dont care to know who said what when....

but, if you provide good advice, people will seek you out. siggy link or not.

i dont have a link.... but i get hits from here on my site. even get an occassional phone call.

if you are MORE WORRIED about links than offering advice, then you arent very helpful.
and if you show an interest only until you find out that the loan is in a state you dont serve and then lose interest.... others here will spot that right away.

i get a lot of business off of boards like this.... and the biggest % come from lurkers.

i have some pretty simple advice to te newbies: be a professional and answer questions.... or leave.

Thanks for your input Tom.
I'm no mortgage pro, but when you give good advice consistently, and treat people with respect, the rest willl follow. We get a lot of spammers here, and it is very easy to get trained to be disrespectful toward those people especially. But really, this means they are winning when we do this.
