I'm curious to find out what you guys are getting for conversion ratios from your sites.

For example if you have 1000 unique visitors to your site and 10 applied that would be a 1% conversion ratio.

There was a recent study done by Compete / Forrester that looked at the big dogs (Nextag, Quicken Loans ect) and they were getting 5%.

Just Curious...

I go by REQUESTS via my site. Though I have not been working for to long in the mortgage business I generate one lead per 62 visitors.

Closing ratio is 66% on my online requests.

That's a great conversion rate (66%) of the leads you recieve from your website.

We're getting at least a 5% conversion rate on the Virtual Loan Departments we're building. For example if a site gets 1000 unique visitors per month, 50 visitors fill out a submission form....

I get 1 request per 100 (10%), but then again.. when a visitor enters my site I can engage a conversation! A popup chat form will come allive and I ask the customer if I may assist them browsing through our site.

It's like a customer walking through the door, but I guide them ONLINE through our site.

Once a customer is talking to me; i can "push" pages; for example the GET QUALIFIED page. I instruct them on how to fill out the form and ready.... a lead is born

That ability to "Push" a link is pretty cool. We do that too.

Although you need to warn people you're going to throw another automatic open window at them.

(Be kind to simple user's on line  )

well.. i can see how long they are on our site. If they go from the calculator to the email form.. that is when I approach them. Either a floating message or the chat screen will pop up.. it let's me chose.

Point in the matter is; when I can contact me customers and take innitiative myself, the results are better!

What chat are you using to do this?

I use Shine Live Help and really like it, it also has the 'push' feature.
There is an option to initiate chats, but I like having a link so they can come to me when they have questions.

Hello there

Don't you find that some visiters find it a bit of a hard sell when a pop up chat comes up or do the majority of then think its a good service?

i guess your conversion figures kinda speak for themselves but i was just wondering how people whould find this in the UK. i'm assuming you're based in the US.

Also do most people understand whats going on when they're just browsing for mortgage info or whatever then get asked to join in a chat?

what you are trying to find out is very hard to tell. THere are A LOT of variables that come in place when it comes to conversions.

Traffic source: search engine marketing? email marketing? 3rd party website?

Website optimization: quality of content within your website, how informative it is, not too much content but not too little... not too graphic heavy. You need to test different landing pages (creatives), different marketing text

There are many different factors involved. All trial and error. The way to find out is to keep testing until you have a reasonable conversion rate where you are profitable and/or are happy with.

I would say that 10-20% is good for a local market, but it all depends on how you are getting your traffic. For instance one mortgage company I worked with paid $50 for 10,000 visitors, he got 10,000 and 0 applications.

I would say if you are driving traffic from good sources then you should have a high application ratio, I also don't think its fair to ONLY could online applications, I'd say out of a 100 "Web Site Generated Lead" over 50% will call into your office to speak with someone.

The reason sites like Quicken Loans and other large sites see such low conversions is because mortgage companies, web designers, SEO experts, etc.. are all visiting the site not just people interested in refinancing or buying a new home.

In regards to the chat software, two things to consider is whether you want a hosted solution (monthly fee) or a desktop application (one time payment).. A good hosted solutions is "Live Person".. Just do a Google search and it should come up.. A good and affordable desktop application is "Live Help Messenger".. no monthly fees for that one..

They both should be easy to integrate to your website.. Most quality hosting providers should be able to do the integration for you for free...
