I thought this was a good read, and many of the principles here apply to more than just student loans. Figured I'd post it for everyone to look over (and not just because it's sponsored by WF either!!) |

Haplo,
Come on this article is pure tripe! You’re towing the “company line’ -- you want to “be educated” (i.e., buy our “services”) so you can “earn more money – see our statistics”. Barf! What an unholy objective from such altruistic institutions!
Where does this have a bearing on our industry? Well, maybe a lot. Look at the folks you’ve interviewed or hired lately. They want to be “told” a pitch rather than understand the nature of what’s going on – the modern view of “education”. Truly the waist-high culture.
Sorry for the negative response but …… Sad! |

Remember the type of audience that most people are ;) Most people need to hear things a certain way, in order for them to understand it. In addition to that, most people are *not* outside the box thinkers. They need to be told what to do, kind of like what you said there.
I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be, and I think it's an important step in the right direction for a lot of people who are being lead around by the nose, and maybe are looking to take that first step into understanding their credit and liabilities. |

mrc, lighten up mon!
we have a lot of people running around in the world who have no common sense with money. Some people fall down and scrape their knees while others just have them amputated and don't even realize what they've done until it's too late! |

I view the article as “Ah … duh” cloaked in a sketchy premise and wrapped in the trusted-advisor guise. All this in support of an industry even more heavily subsidized that ours (viewed more expansively as real estate)
A more probing article was recently in Forbes:

Yes, to my disgrace, I occasionally mention the “American Dream” bit but steadfastly avoid the Will Roger’s school of wealth accumulation. |
