I think one of the reasons people tend to go with the first lender they meet is the time invested. After the lender sits you down and spends an hour going over the different types of loans, its hard not to feel a sense of obligation to do business with them. What are the advantages of visiting a few different loan officers? It seems to me you would learn a lot more this way (before making a decision).

David, I think it is a good idea to visit more loan officers and see what is the best deal loan that you can get!

I also recently learned that loan officers also frequently change employers. That shows you how loyal they are, so maybe the customer shoudl behave the same way!

Thats why we hold first time home buyer seminars and credit repair seminars..to work on building strong foundations...the calls always come in from the seminar..not because we spent time with them but becasue we educated them...

Very good point.
You can't always guarantee someone will come back, but if you do a agood job educating them, you will earn their confidence. Even if you don't get their business, they may recommend someone to you that buys.

That is exactly what we focus on..when your a broker who is not afraid to tell you what the costs are for and be willing to go more in detail with your customers..you start to develp trust..and the bond should be formed from there..not based on how much time they spend in your office.
